Mason was particularly influential in 2017, his senior year, when he had won the ‘Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award’ (the country’s top upperclassmen quarterback in college football), the ‘Sammy Baugh Trophy’ (the country’s top collegiate passer), and the ‘Fellowship of Christian Athletes – Bobby Bowden Award’.   • During his high school career, Mason had passed for 10,986 yards and recorded 132 passing touchdowns. In his senior year, he had recorded 80 touchdowns and thrown for 4,400 yards, leading his team to the ‘4A State Championship’ with a 15-0 win-loss record, and a national ranking of number 7.
  • That year, he had also been named the offensive ‘MVP’ in the annual ‘Shrine Bowl All-Star’ game and was a finalist for South Carolina’s ‘Mr. Football’ award.
